A.J. Brown Upgrades Patriots' Offense

2026-07-06 · A.J. Brown · Player Focus

A.J. Brown is set to elevate the New England Patriots' offense with his unique blend of size and power.

Brown's ability to create space and punish defenses will be a valuable asset to the team.

He can turn a routine throw into something bigger with his body, winning through contact.

In 2025, Brown finished with an 83.0 overall grade, 13th among 81 qualified receivers, after he caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns.

While Stefon Diggs was productive and efficient with 11.9 yards per catch, Brown brings more size and power to the table.

Diggs had an 87.5 overall grade, sixth among 81 qualified wide receivers, after he caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

But Brown's value starts with the way he wins, creating space with his body and turning routine throws into something bigger.

With Brown on board, Maye will have a new target who can erase mistakes and punish soft coverage.

Maye was one of the NFL's best downfield passers in 2025, completing 52.1% of his deep attempts and adding 1.31 expected points per dropback on throws of more than 20 air yards.

Now the Patriots have to keep building the right environment around him.

A quarterback can survive with good receivers, but he grows faster with receivers who can create space and punish defenses.

The Patriots needed more size and physicality, a receiver who can take a slant, break a tackle, and make a defensive coordinator rethink the next call.

With Brown, they have a receiver who can do just that, giving them a chance to build a dangerous offense around Maye.

The Patriots have to keep building the right environment around Maye, and with Brown on board, they have a good chance of doing just that.

Brown gives New England more of what they need to succeed, and it's fair to expect his best, superseding what Diggs brought to the table.
