Alex Bowman Faces Backlash After Costly Contact with Tyler Reddick at North Wilkesboro

Alex Bowman drew intense criticism from NASCAR fans after a costly contact with Tyler Reddick during green-flag pit stops at North Wilkesboro Speedway. The incident occurred on Sunday's Window World 450, where Bowman lined up 25th and struggled to make headway.

What happened?

Bowman attempted to pit from the fast lane and swerved in front of Reddick, causing a contact that spun out both entries. This costly move placed teammates Chase Elliott and William Byron two laps down. They had to use the wave-around rule to gain back a lap, while Bowman ultimately finished 26th.

Why it matters for Alex Bowman

The incident has sparked mounting pressure on Bowman, who currently stands 13 spots outside the Chase bubble. The Hendrick Motorsports driver faces an uphill battle amidst his vertigo diagnosis, which forced him to sit out four races this season. Bowman had to retire from the COTA race due to vertigo symptoms and was replaced by Justin Allgaier and Anthony Alfredo.

What comes next?

Bowman recently shed light on his contract talks with HMS, stating that he hopes to reprise his seat and remains tight-lipped on a potential exit. "I don't feel like I'm racing for my job or anything like that by any means," Bowman said. "We've had a lot of different conversations and kind of trying to figure out what the best thing to do is. So I would say sooner rather than later for sure."

The No.48 driver has four top-10s and three DNFs after 16 starts. His most recent top-10 comes from a fifth at Chicagoland Speedway. The last time Bowman had a race win was in the 2024 Chicago Street Race.
