Alex Márquez Battles to Finish in Assen MotoGP
Alex Márquez finished 13th in the Assen MotoGP race on Sunday. He had considered stopping due to his injuries.
Marquez arrived at Assen hoping to finish the weekend after pulling out of the Czechia race.
He crashed in Practice on Friday, sustaining heavy abrasions on his left arm.
Marquez was competitive on Sunday, riding behind Pedro Acosta, Marc Márquez, and Francesco Bagnaia.
Acosta and Bagnaia retired with issues, and Marquez found himself battling Marc Márquez.
A misjudged overtake from Di Giannantonio on Marc Márquez gave Alex Márquez two positions.
Di Giannantonio came back for one of those in the last couple of laps.
Marquez said he was feeling better and tried to survive the race, managing his rear tyre.
The slipstream from the group in front helped him, and he was lucky to recover positions.
Marquez added that the race became harder after Di Giannantonio and Marc Márquez dropped behind him.
He lost his visual reference and was not able to save his rear tyre.
Marquez was able to finish, but not defend against Di Giannantonio in the last lap.
He was physically finished, but happy to have completed the race.
Marquez's first goal was to finish the race and complete the 26 laps, which he achieved.
He was not expecting to finish, but the late gain convinced him to continue.
Marquez's result was much better than expected, and he was pleased with his rhythm.
He will look to build on this result in the next race.
