Alex Márquez Crashes Out at Sachsenring After Late Mistake on Lap 9

2026-07-13 · Alex Márquez · Player Focus

Alex Márquez crashed out of the MotoGP race at Sachsenring on 12 Jul 2026 after a late mistake on lap 9, ending his bid to challenge brother Marc for the win. The Gresini rider was closely shadowing Marc until the final corner, where a loss of front-end grip sent him sliding off.

Alex Márquez was running second, within striking distance of Marc Marquez, when he lost control exiting the final corner on lap 9. He didn’t make contact with another rider. The fall ended his race instantly. He finished unclassified, while Marc went on to win. Alex admitted the error was entirely his own, blaming overconfidence in a low-grip sector.

This crash deepens his struggle to regain race rhythm after injury. He’s 121 points behind the championship leader but insists he’s closing in on full fitness. He noted stiffness on the bike, too much weight on the front, and difficulty turning. His goal is to be 100% by Silverstone or, at the latest, Aragon. The fall was a setback, but he called the weekend a step forward.

The summer break arrives soon, and Alex sees it as critical for recovery. He’s not yet matching his pre-injury pace but feels the speed is returning. He pointed out the championship is wide open: five riders are within 24 points: and consistency is rare. He named Bezzecchi as the only rider who showed it early, before injury. Martin leads now, but Ogura and Marc are threats. Alex doesn’t see himself as a favorite yet.

Alex was visibly frustrated but not defeated. He called the mistake "small" but admitted it "really hurts." He stayed positive about his overall weekend, saying he’s finally fast again: just not yet consistent. He didn’t blame wind or track conditions. He blamed himself. "I pushed the front too hard trying to make up time," he said. "It was just a small error. But it hurts."

He smiled when talking about Bezzecchi’s misfortune, showing he’s still analyzing the bigger picture. His focus now is on the break: rest, rehab, and rebuilding confidence. He knows the title fight is tight. He just needs to stay upright.
