Alex Márquez Finishes Second in Sachsenring Sprint Race Behind Marc Márquez
Alex Márquez finished second in the MotoGP Sprint race at Sachsenring on 11 Jul 2026, just behind his brother Marc Márquez, marking his best result since his crash in Catalunya one month prior.
Alex Márquez spent all fifteen laps glued to Marc’s Desmosedici, hunting for a passing opportunity at the Sachsenring’s few viable overtaking spots-Turns 12, 13, and 1. He closed in at Turn 11, where Marc showed slight vulnerability under acceleration, but every time Alex gained ground, Marc pulled away by the final two corners. The gap opened and closed like a rubber band, with no room to maneuver.
He admitted he didn’t feel 100% confident yet after the Catalunya crash. Instead of forcing risky passes, he used the race as a learning tool. On lap seven or eight, he noticed Marc managing both front and rear tire wear and copied the technique. That subtle adjustment helped him hold off challengers and preserve second place.
Alex said it felt surreal. When he saw second place on the timing screen, he initially thought someone had stolen his pole. Then he saw Marc’s name and smiled. He called the reunion in Parc Fermé a bright moment, even if it stung to finish behind his brother. It was their first one-two in a Sprint race since last year.
He doesn’t think so. With the medium rear tire and longer distance, Marc’s advantage grows. The more laps they do, Alex said, the fewer chances Marc gives him. He knows the main race will be tougher, but he’s taking confidence from the Sprint result-his first podium since returning from injury.
He’s not back to last year’s level yet, but this result proves progress. After a brutal crash in Montmeló, finishing second on a track where overtaking is nearly impossible shows resilience. He’s not just recovering-he’s adapting, learning, and quietly rebuilding his racecraft.
