On Friday, Anthony Davis reshared an Instagram Story by TyCal K9, a professional dog trainer, showing Zeus running toward him in a harness. Beneath the clip, Davis posted a simple but devastating caption: **“RIP Zeus!!! Love you forever man! 🥺😔”**

Zeus had been part of Davis’s life since 2016, when the big dog was still a puppy. A December 2016 Instagram post shows a young Zeus staring up at Davis with a stick in hand, the two already forming a bond that would last eight years.

The loss arrives at a fragile moment for Davis. His future with the Washington Wizards is up in the air ahead of contract talks that could reshape both his career and the franchise’s direction.

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Davis’s camp is pushing for a four-year, $275 million maximum contract. Yet skepticism lingers over whether any team would commit that much to an injury-prone star at 33 years old.

Davis is set to earn $58.4 million in the 2026-27 season, with a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28. August could decide whether he stays in Washington: or leaves the franchise that drafted him in 2012.
