Bobby Finke Wins Swimming World American Male Swimmer of the Year

Bobby Finke is the Swimming World American Male Swimmer of the Year for 2024. He won the Olympic gold medal in the 1500 freestyle with a world record time of 14:30.67.

Finke cut 0.35 seconds off Sun Yang's world record of 14:31.02.

Finke said his early speed was not his initial strategy.

He saw he had a decent lead at the 300-meter mark and decided to keep going.

Finke hoped to make his opponents hurt trying to catch up to him.

He was getting worried when they started catching up, but he kept pushing.

As long as he could keep a little distance, Finke knew he was in good shape.

Prior to Finke's win, the United States claimed gold in only the 400 freestyle relay.
