Bode Miller Denies Drug Ownership After Idaho Arrest
Bode Miller, the six-time Olympic medalist, has addressed the legal situation that placed him in headlines this week. He was arrested in Idaho on June 6 on misdemeanor drug charges.
Bode Miller was pulled over while passing another vehicle on an Idaho highway. He stated that a friend traveling with him possessed a small amount of cannabis and a cannabis pipe, which he was unaware of.
The news surprised many sports fans given Miller’s status as one of the most accomplished American skiers in history. He won six Olympic medals, including a gold medal in the super combined event at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Bode Miller released a statement explaining his side of the incident. **“I was pulled over for accelerating while passing another vehicle on a highway in Idaho,”** Miller said. **“My friend, who was traveling with me, had a small amount of cannabis and a cannabis pipe in his possession which I was unaware of.”**
He posted a $5,000 bond and entered not guilty pleas to both charges. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for July 29.
The discrepancy between Miller’s account and the police report has become a major focus of the case. Authorities alleged that approximately 4.1 grams of psilocybin mushrooms were discovered in a dispensary-style bag.
Bode Miller has maintained his innocence and continues to dispute key details surrounding the arrest. He is hopeful the misdemeanor charges will be dropped once the facts are reviewed.
Bode Miller retired from competitive skiing in 2017 after building one of the most decorated careers in American winter sports history. He also captured two overall World Cup titles and recorded 33 World Cup race victories during his career.
Since retiring, Miller has remained active in broadcasting and various business ventures. He’s also gone through difficult times, losing his 19-month-old daughter, Emeline, in a drowning accident at a neighbor's house on June 10, 2018.
