PSG rule out Bradley Barcola transfer as Arsenal pivot to Julian Alvarez

Arsenal have dropped Bradley Barcola from their transfer targets after Paris Saint-Germain made clear the France winger is off-limits this summer.

The Gunners are now pushing for a rapid deal for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, with the 26-year-old’s release clause set at €500 million (£432m). Arsenal want to wrap up the move before pre-season starts as the scramble for Alvarez eases.

A sticking point remains price: Arsenal won’t go beyond £90m while Atletico hold out for over £100m. Spanish radio COPE claims Atletico are refusing to talk to Barcelona and instead working with Arsenal on Alvarez.

Barcola’s stock fell after limited minutes at PSG last season. Liverpool also circled, but the European champions plan to keep him. That left Arsenal hunting Alvarez as their top priority.

Sources told the Mirror Barcola’s unavailability forced the Gunners to change course. The France international’s future now hinges on PSG’s post-World Cup stance, though no shift is expected soon.

Arsenal aim to land Alvarez before pre-season begins. The club’s valuation gap with Atletico remains wide, yet the Gunners see a window to strike while other suitors fade.

Alvarez, who spoke in June, said: “I spoke with people at the club. The best thing for everyone is a transfer and I want to fulfil my dream.”
