Carlos Ulberg tapped out by Jiri Prochazka in UFC title fight finish

Carlos Ulberg suffered a first-round submission loss to Jiri Prochazka on 18 June at UFC Paris, ending his five-fight unbeaten run and handing the Czech fighter the UFC light heavyweight championship.

What happened?

Jiri Prochazka forced Carlos Ulberg to tap at 2:50 of round one at Accor Arena in Paris. The finish came via rear-naked choke after Ulberg checked a takedown and tried to scramble back to his feet. Prochazka, a former champion, dropped Ulberg with a left hand early and kept the pressure on until the finish.

Why it matters for Carlos Ulberg

The loss snaps Ulberg’s five-fight win streak and dashes his title hopes. He entered on a 5-0 run in the UFC, including a decision win over Anthony Smith in March. Now he’ll need to regroup against elite light heavyweight competition. The defeat also marks the second time in three years a former champ has taken his belt in Paris.

What comes next?

Prochazka, 32, becomes a two-time UFC light heavyweight champion. He called out Ilia Topuria next after the finish. Ulberg, 30, will look to bounce back in the division’s crowded upper tier. The result keeps the title picture fluid as Topuria and others circle for shots.
