Casemiro’s Manchester United trait remains irreplaceable this summer
Manchester United have failed to find a replacement for one defining trait of Casemiro this summer: his defensive discipline. Erik ten Hag’s side have watched several midfielders leave without solving the problem.
Casemiro’s ability to shield the defence has left a gap at Old Trafford. United have sold three midfielders since June: Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro himself. The club have signed Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro but neither fills the Brazilian’s role.
Casemiro’s departure on 15 July 2026 ends a two-year spell at United. His 34 yellow cards in 96 games show how often he broke up opposition attacks. The club’s new signings focus on attack, not the deep-lying control he provided.
Ten Hag must rebuild midfield before the August transfer deadline. Reports link United with João Neves and Manuel Ugarte: both known for defensive work. Without Casemiro, the team risks more lapses in transition play.
