Chad le Clos needs just one more medal to add to his tally of 18 to become the sole record holder for the most Commonwealth medals won by any male athlete.

Chad le Clos kicked off the Bombela Concession Company SA National (25m) Championships in Pietermaritzburg by collecting golds in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

The squad features a potent blend of youth and experience competing across 10 sports, including six fully integrated para-sports such as para-athletics, para-swimming, and 3x3 wheelchair basketball. Former netball captain Bongiwe Msomi will lead the contingent as Chef de Mission.

To back their pursuit of excellence, SASCOC President Barry Hendricks announced lucrative financial incentives. Individual gold medallists will pocket R100,000, with R15,000 for their coach.

Defending giants Pieter Coetze and Lara van Niekerk return to defend the gold medals they captured at Birmingham 2022. The Scottish city last hosted the Games in 2014, when Team SA secured a spectacular 40 medals, including 13 gold medals.
