Charles Oliveira Replaces Bobby Green to Fight Clay Guida

2026-06-24 · Charles Oliveira · Player Focus

Charles Oliveira will replace Bobby Green in a lightweight fight against Clay Guida at UFC 225 on June 9 in Chicago.

Oliveira accepted the challenge on just 10 days' notice, though he still needs to get a work visa and medical exams before making the trip to Chicago.

The 28-year-old Brazilian is 1-1 since moving up from featherweight in 2017, and a win over Guida could be a significant step forward in his career.

Oliveira last fought in December, losing via TKO to Paul Felder at UFC 218.

Guida, a former Strikeforce lightweight champ, is 2-0 since returning to 155 lbs with wins over Erik Koch and Joe Lauzon, and could reach his first three-fight win streak since 2010-11 with a win over Oliveira.

The fight is scheduled to be the second of the night on a super-stacked UFC 225 card that will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero.

Guida knocked out Joe Lauzon in 67 seconds last November, and will look to continue his winning streak against Oliveira.

The UFC 225 event will take place on June 9 in Chicago, and Oliveira will be looking to make a strong impression on short notice, with the fight being a key test of his skills and endurance.

Oliveira's ability to take the fight on short notice is a testament to his **toughness** and dedication to his craft, and he will be looking to use this opportunity to get back on track after his loss to Felder, and make a push for the top of the lightweight division.

The lightweight division is one of the most competitive in the UFC, with a number of top contenders vying for a title shot, and a win for Oliveira could be a major step forward in his career, and put him in the mix for a potential title fight in the future.
