Charlie Curnow Suffers Season-Ending Knee Injury

2026-06-23 · Charlie Curnow · Player Focus

Charlie Curnow's season is over after Carlton announced he would undergo knee surgery.

The 28-year-old key forward reported soreness after last Thursday's loss to Hawthorn.

Carlton football boss Brad Lloyd said the decision was made to give Curnow the best chance to recover fully over the off-season.

Curnow was adamant last week that he would not require surgery despite his issues this year.

The surgery comes after Curnow missed the start of the 2025 campaign following a knee operation in December last year.

He missed two years of football across 2019-21 with knee injuries before returning to become a dual Coleman medallist.

Curnow recently shut down speculation that he could request a trade, saying "I obviously want to be here" and "I'm playing at Carlton next year".

Curnow is under contract until 2029, and his commitment would be a boost for the Blues.

Pundits have suggested Carlton should consider trading Curnow's partner Harry McKay, who is locked in until 2030.

Curnow's 2025 campaign ends with 32 goals from 18 appearances for the struggling Blues side.

The Blues are still uncertain if Tom De Koning will stick with the team or take up a monster offer to join St Kilda.

Curnow was already expected to miss Carlton's clash with Fremantle in Perth on Sunday prior to the surgery decision.

The club's decision to undergo surgery was made after further consultation this week.

Lloyd said "we've taken the sensible approach" to ensure Curnow's full recovery.

Curnow's injury is a significant blow to the Blues, who are out of finals contention.

The team will have to rely on other players to fill the gap left by Curnow's absence.

Curnow's commitment to the Blues is a positive sign for the team's future.

The Blues will have to wait until next season to see Curnow back in action.
