Charlotte Flair Bounces Back From Serious Knee Injury

2026-06-23 · Charlotte Flair · Player Focus

Charlotte Flair suffered a serious knee injury in December 2023 during a WWE SmackDown match against Asuka.

The injury took her out of commission for nearly a year as she underwent rehabilitation.

She did a number of strengthening exercises during her rehabilitation, including terminal knee extension with a resistance band.

Flair's rehabilitation was going great until the seven-month mark, when her quad began to hurt as she stepped up the stairs.

She feared her knee was going to give out again, but instead of adjusting her training, she stopped active movement for five weeks.

This, she recalls, was the absolute worst idea, having to take an extra month to get back on track.

Flair's biggest tip for guys who get injured is to stay determined, saying "you can come back as strong or as weak as the effort that you put in".

She also emphasizes the importance of ankle mobility, including exercises such as box jumps and one-legged hops to help with balance in the ankle.

As a 14-time women's world champion, Flair's legacy is a responsibility she takes to heart, always wanting to be at the top of her game.

Her father, Ric Flair, looms large as one of the most notable figures of the glory days of wrestling.

Flair trained in John Cena's gym, mastering Olympic lifts, and has had an incredible career, with some saying she's arguably one of the greatest female wrestlers.

But for Flair, it's still not enough, and she's always looking to get better, stronger, and faster.

She spoke with Ebenezer Samuel, fitness director, and Dr. Pat Davidson, exercise physiologist and strength coach, about her journey and what's going on right now in her WWE world.

Flair's number one tip for guys looking to get back to the gym is to keep moving, saying "it's better to move than to not move".
