2026-06-30 · Chase Elliott · Player Focus

Chase Elliott is set to drive Dale Earnhardt Jr's iconic No.8 at North Wilkesboro Speedway on July 17. He will compete in the CARS Tour race for JR Motorsports.

Elliott has been enjoying a fine NASCAR Cup Series season, with two wins at Martinsville and Texas. He has been pushing for the opportunity to drive in a perimeter-rail Late Model.

This will be Elliott's first start at North Wilkesboro in the series, though he has previously won the PASS South Labor Day Classic 200 at the track in 2010. He will get behind the wheel of Earnhardt's iconic stylized No.8 with sponsorship from NAPA.

The late Kyle Busch was initially set to make the start in a Late Model Stock for JR Motorsports, but following his sudden death, Elliott will take his place. Earnhardt had been discussing the opportunity with Busch, who was excited about the prospect of his fans and JRM fans cheering together.

Elliott has one prior CARS Tour start to his record, finishing second to William Byron in the now-defunct Super Late Model division at Hickory. He will look to build on this experience as he takes to the track on July 17.

The event will serve as a significant moment in Elliott's NASCAR career, as he competes in a new series and drives an iconic car. With his current form and experience, he will be looking to make a strong impression at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

Dale Earnhardt Jr had been wanting to give Elliott the opportunity to drive his No.8, and the two had even discussed a car swap in the past. Elliott had been pushing for the chance to drive in a perimeter-rail Late Model, and it seems the pair have finally struck a deal.

The CARS Tour race at North Wilkesboro Speedway will take place on July 17, with Elliott driving the iconic No.8 for JR Motorsports. He will be looking to make the most of this opportunity and build on his current form in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Elliott's experience in the ASA STARS Super Late Model competition will likely serve him well as he takes to the track in the CARS Tour race. He has been an advocate for short-track racing and has competed in various events throughout his career.

The partnership between Elliott and JR Motorsports will be an exciting one to watch, as he takes to the track in the iconic No.8. With his skills and experience, he will be looking to make a strong impression and achieve a good result on July 17.
