Christian Coleman Arrested For Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting

2026-06-23 · Christian Coleman · Player Focus

Christian Coleman was arrested on Thursday for drug paraphernalia and resisting during a traffic stop in Winter Garden, Florida.

The arrest occurred when Coleman's girlfriend, Sha'Carri Richardson, was pulled over for speeding, reaching up to 104 MPH on State Road 429.

The officer activated lights and sirens, and Richardson claimed her back tire was underinflated, causing her to speed.

Coleman approached the scene, despite being instructed to stay back, and dropped an object in the grass, which was later found to be a glass smoking device.

The device had a small amount of green, leafy plant material on it, suspected to be cannabis.

Coleman was placed under arrest for resisting and posted a $1,000 bond later that night, with $500 for each respective charge.

Richardson was also arrested on one charge of dangerous excessive speeding and cited for several driving violations.

The incident occurred around noon on Thursday, with fellow sprinter Twanisha Terry arriving at the scene and receiving a ticket for stopping on a limited-access highway.

Coleman and Richardson's vehicles were towed from the area, and they were taken to jail in separate vehicles.

As of Thursday, Coleman had been released after posting bond, while Richardson's status was not immediately clear.

The arrest is not Coleman's first run-in with the law, as he and Richardson had an argument that turned physical at an airport last year.

Richardson called Coleman a "coward" in body cam footage from the incident, despite his attempts to defend her.

The incident has raised questions about the couple's behavior and potential consequences for their athletic careers.

Coleman and Richardson are both prominent figures in the track and field athletics world, with Coleman being a medalist and Richardson being a top sprinter.

The incident has sparked concern among fans and officials, with many waiting to see how the situation will unfold.
