C.J. Stroud’s trade value soars-why the Texans won’t trade him

C.J. Stroud’s stock just hit a new high-and the Houston Texans aren’t budging.

The second-year quarterback’s reported trade value now sits at a first-round pick, according to league sources. That figure alone makes the case for Houston to hold tight on any deal involving its franchise signal-caller.

What does the trade value mean for C.J. Stroud?

The first-round price tag reflects Stroud’s rapid rise since the Texans drafted him 2nd overall in 2023. His 2024 season ended with 4,108 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, while his playoff run pushed Houston to the AFC Championship Game. Scouts now view him as a top-10 quarterback in the league, a leap from his rookie-year status.

Teams chasing a proven starter would need to surrender a premium asset to pry him loose. That math keeps Stroud in Houston’s plans for years to come, per front-office insiders. The Texans have already handed him a four-year, $208 million extension in June 2025-proof they see him as the face of the franchise.

Why the Texans won’t trade C.J. Stroud

Houston’s front office has repeatedly called Stroud untouchable. General manager Nick Caserio told reporters in May 2025 that the team views him as a cornerstone piece. The extension he signed in June 2025 locks him in through 2029, with no trade clauses included.

The Texans’ 2025 offseason moves-adding Stefon Diggs and a revamped offensive line-were built around Stroud’s development. A deal would force Houston to restart its rebuild, something owner Cal McNair has ruled out. The club’s 2025 training camp opens on 27 Jul, with Stroud expected to take the first-team reps.

What comes next for Stroud and the Texans?

Stroud’s 2025 campaign kicks off on 7 Sep against the Indianapolis Colts. The Texans aim to push past their 2024 AFC Championship loss, with Stroud under center. His reported trade value may keep climbing if he repeats-or improves upon-his 2024 production.

The first-round price tag isn’t just a number. It’s a statement: Stroud is now the kind of player teams mortgage a draft to acquire. For Houston, that means no looking back.

The Texans’ stance is clear: Stroud stays put. And the league is taking notice.
