Oliver's frustration with "missed opportunities" with Melbourne still lingers, but he's determined to make the most of his new chapter with the Giants. He's already been impressed by the team's prime mover Tom Green, who's out for the season with an ACL injury.

"I probably didn't lose the love of (the game), probably just had a few other things going on," Oliver said. "Ever since I've come up here, I've got that drive back and motivation."

Oliver's new teammate, Hogan, has been a big influence on his decision to join the Giants. Hogan said he was straight on the phone to coach Adam Kingsley to persuade him to sign Oliver.

"I don't want to compare our stories, but I just feel like a change of scenery for him would be massive," Hogan said. "There's absolutely no reason that he can't get back to being one of the best mids in the comp."

Oliver's set to play a larger role with the Giants, and he's already developing a strong relationship with Kingsley. He said he's grateful for the opportunity to start a new chapter in his life and is determined to make the most of it.

"I'm a life member there-unless they cancel that on me, hopefully they don't," Oliver said. "I'm still welcome back there, probably not at the moment, but ... nah, I'll be forever grateful."
