Collin Morikawa admits Scottie Scheffler plays at a different level

Collin Morikawa has admitted Scottie Scheffler is operating on a level no one else can match right now.

The two-time major champion made the comments on 18 June 2024 during Sky Sports’ broadcast of the Travelers Championship, where Scheffler carded a 10-under 60 to underline his dominance.

Morikawa, speaking live from the course, called Scheffler’s game “not as easy as he makes it seem.”

He added: “It’s hard to get over that finish line and you just have to keep putting those little pieces together.”

The American then delivered his blunt assessment: “This guy is on a different level than a lot of us right now, for sure.”

Why Scheffler’s ball-striking stands out

Morikawa was asked what impresses him most about Scheffler’s game.

“Yeah, you know, he’s always pin high,” Morikawa said.

“Everyone always talks about it. I think it always comes down to spin control, but he’s always hitting the right shot.”

He highlighted Scheffler’s ability to shape every club both ways.

“A little draw, a little fade, and I think when he’s not even feeling it perfectly, he still has a go-to shot,” Morikawa said.

“That’s the biggest thing. I tend to want to work it one way, obviously left to right, a bit too much sometimes. He’s able to work it both ways, and it’s fun just to watch the control he has.”

Collin Morikawa’s own form dip

Morikawa, 27, has seven PGA Tour titles and two majors.

But his own form has dipped over the past two years.

He won at Pebble Beach in February 2024, yet a back injury has lingered since then.

“Collin Morikawa’s back problem has really affected his ability to hit certain shots,” the report noted.

“But he does seem to be improving week by week.”

What’s next for both stars

Scheffler, 27, remains world No. 1 after 162 straight weeks at the top.

He has 20 PGA Tour wins since February 2022, including four majors.

Morikawa, meanwhile, eyes a return to peak form after his injury setback.

Both will tee up again soon, with the next Tour stop just around the corner.
