Connor Bedard Needs Jason Robertson to Thrive

2026-06-26 · Connor Bedard · Transfer

Connor Bedard's success hinges on finding the right top-line winger, and Jason Robertson could be the answer. On Thursday night, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet confirmed Robertson turned down an 8-year deal worth $15 million annually from the Seattle Kraken.

The Chicago Blackhawks have been searching for a winger who can score 40 goals and 80 points without it being a career year. Robertson's skills make him an ideal fit.

Robertson and Bedard could become 50-goal/100-point players alongside each other, as they both drive play and score goals. They would look to find each other on the ice while also knowing when to shoot the puck themselves.

The Blackhawks would need to give up a significant haul, likely including two 1st-round picks and a good player, to acquire Robertson from the Dallas Stars. At 26 years old, Robertson is one of the best wingers in the NHL and will be for a long time.

The Blackhawks have been in talks to land Robertson, which makes sense from a hockey standpoint. Robertson's 45 goals and 51 assists for 96 points in 82 games played in 2025-26 demonstrate his value. He also marked his 4th consecutive year without missing a single game.

And the cost of extending Robertson would be high, with a projected $12-15 million per year salary. But the potential reward of having him play alongside Connor Bedard could be worth it for the Blackhawks.

So the question is, will the Blackhawks commit to winning by trading for Robertson? The answer could come soon, as the NHL offseason heats up.

If the Blackhawks acquire Robertson, it would show their players and season ticket holders that they are committed to winning. It would also give Connor Bedard the support he needs to thrive on the top line.

The Blackhawks' rebuild could get a significant boost with the addition of Robertson. He is a player who can make a difference, and his skills would complement Bedard's well.

But the decision ultimately rests with the Blackhawks' front office. They must weigh the costs and benefits of trading for Robertson and decide if it's worth the investment.

For now, the wait continues. The Blackhawks' fans can only hope that their team will make the right move to support Connor Bedard and bring success to the franchise.
