Dale Earnhardt Jr backs Carson Kvapil after near-win at NASCAR O'Reilly race

Dale Earnhardt Jr has praised Carson Kvapil's performance after the young driver finished second at the NASCAR O'Reilly race on Saturday. Despite leading JR Motorsports' charge, Kvapil fell short of his first career win, but Earnhardt Jr sees it as a pivotal moment in his development.

JR Motorsports dominated the NASCAR O'Reilly race, with Justin Allgaier securing his sixth win of the 2026 season. Carson Kvapil and Rajah Caruth were in contention for their first victories but finished second and fourth, respectively. Kvapil's second-place finish marked his fourth runner-up result in 63 career starts.

Earnhardt Jr emphasized Kvapil's strong performance, noting his stage win and solid points night. 'He did all the things aside from winning the race that we need to do to try to win a championship,' Earnhardt Jr said. 'He can go win the championship this year.'

Earnhardt Jr highlighted the significance of Kvapil's consistency and maturity. 'I'm absolutely honest with Carson on his career,' he said. 'He knows all the ins and outs of what his situation is.' Earnhardt Jr urged Kvapil to focus on the positives and avoid dwelling on missed opportunities. 'Don't look at it as, man, the pressure's on,' he said. 'You got a great race car, great crew chief. This is your opportunity to stake your claim and show you belong.'
