Dale Earnhardt Jr's CARS Tour Signs Speedway Motorsports for Grassroots Boost

Dale Earnhardt Jr's zMAX CARS Tour announced a major expansion on Tuesday, July 15, 2026, with Speedway Motorsports and CEO Marcus Smith joining the ownership group. This partnership bolsters the grassroots racing series' mission to develop the next generation of NASCAR stars.

What does this mean for the CARS Tour?

The addition of Speedway Motorsports brings decades of motorsports expertise to the table. Founded by NASCAR Hall of Famer Bruton Smith, the organization has built and operated some of the sport's most iconic tracks, including Charlotte Motor Speedway. Marcus Smith, who has led the company since 2015, oversees 11 motorsports venues hosting NASCAR Cup Series races and other major events.

Why is this significant for Dale Earnhardt Jr?

Earnhardt Jr, along with Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton, and Justin Marks, purchased the CARS Tour in 2023. Their goal has been to strengthen short-track racing and create a clearer path for young drivers to reach NASCAR's national series. Speedway Motorsports' involvement aligns perfectly with this vision, given the company's long-standing commitment to driver development.

What's next for the series?

With Speedway Motorsports on board, the CARS Tour is poised for further growth. The series, which features Late Model Stock Cars and Pro Late Models, has become a premier proving ground for aspiring NASCAR drivers. This partnership is expected to enhance the tour's profile and provide even more opportunities for up-and-coming talent.
