Daria Kasatkina Wins Wimbledon Opener Against Mimi Xu
Daria Kasatkina won her Wimbledon opener against local wildcard Mimi Xu on 30 Jun 2026.
Kasatkina defeated Xu in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, in one hour and 42 minutes.
The 29-year-old Australian came from a winless grass-court campaign and admitted she had no expectations of enjoying a deep run.
Kasatkina discovered she had a fight on her hands after winning the first set comfortably, as Xu hit back to take the second set.
Kasatkina regrouped and controlled the decider for the win, setting up a second-round clash with Janice Tjen.
The win was Australia's first at Wimbledon after losses by Aleksandar Vukic and Adam Walton.
Kasatkina's potential third-round opponent is four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.
Vukic suffered a knee injury before bowing out to US foe Jenson Brooksby, 7-6 (9/7), 6-1, 6-1.
Walton enjoyed an excellent start against Croatian Dino Prižmić but fell away after losing a second-set tiebreak, eventually succumbing 4-6, 7-6 (7/3), 6-4, 6-2.
Rinky Hijikata's match against Dutchman Jesper de Jong was suspended by rain on 30 Jun 2026.
