David de Gea Reveals Biggest Man United Regret
David de Gea has revealed his biggest regret from his time at Manchester United.
The former Manchester United goalkeeper departed the club in July 2023 after a distinguished 12-year stint.
He established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers in the club's history, making 545 appearances and recording 190 clean sheets.
De Gea helped the Red Devils win the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Europa League, and two Carabao Cups.
He also scooped up two Premier League Golden Glove awards, four Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year awards, and four Players' Player of the Year awards.
On his sabbatical, De Gea said, “It was an easy decision. After 12 years at United, I needed a break, so I took a year off to dedicate to my family and friends: it was the best year of my life.”
He continued, “I was sure I could compete at a high level again. When Fiorentina called me, I was ready.”
De Gea reflected on his time at Old Trafford, working with club legends like Sir Alex Ferguson and Cristiano Ronaldo.
He said about featuring alongside Ronaldo, “Cristiano has something special. Everything about him is incredible: the way he works and takes care of himself, his diet.”
De Gea's current club, Fiorentina, is fighting to avoid relegation, sitting in 16th place, just two points above the drop zone.
Manchester United returns to action on 13 April when they host Leeds United.
David de Gea's decision to leave Manchester United in July 2023 has been followed by a challenging season with Fiorentina.
The 35-year-old spent one year as a free agent before signing for Fiorentina, where he had a stellar debut season.
However, this term has proven far more challenging for the side.
De Gea's biggest regret at Manchester United was losing the Premier League in their first year, when City took the title from them with a last-minute win despite their victory over Sunderland.
He made up for it by winning it in 2012-13, and every game at United was special for him.
De Gea owes a lot to Sanchez Flores, who brought him into the first team at Atletico when he was very young.
With Flores, De Gea won the Europa League and the European Super Cup.
Sir Alex Ferguson was fundamental to De Gea, like a father, and wanted him at United.
De Gea's time at Manchester United was marked by numerous achievements and accolades.
His decision to leave the club has been followed by a new challenge with Fiorentina.
The experienced goalkeeper is determined to help his current club avoid relegation.
