Désiré Doué’s brother emerges as PSG’s top right-back target amid Hakimi backup hunt

2026-07-14 · Désiré Doué · Transfer

PSG have identified Guela Doué as their prime candidate to back up Achraf Hakimi at right-back after the Ivory Coast defender starred at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

On 18 June 2026, Guela Doué played three games for Ivory Coast at the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. His displays caught the eye of European scouts, with PSG sporting director Luis Campos leading the chase for a defensive deputy to Hakimi. The French giants missed out on last summer’s window and now face a tight race to land the 21-year-old before pre-season ramps up under Luis Enrique.

Désiré Doué, the Rennes and France winger, will watch his younger sibling’s career surge if Guela seals a move to Parc des Princes. The Doué family’s stock rises in Ligue 1 circles, and a PSG arrival would put Guela in the shop window for France’s next generation. PSG’s need for depth at right-back is well-documented after Hakimi’s injury absences last term left them exposed in key fixtures.

Guela’s versatility-he can play right-back or wing-back-has convinced Campos he can step in without a drop-off in quality. Rival clubs in England and Spain have also circled, but PSG’s financial muscle and Champions League lure give them an edge. The board wants this resolved fast to avoid another summer of scrambling for cover at full-back.

Guela’s agent has opened talks with PSG, who must move before Enrique’s squad gathers in late July. The Ivorian’s wage demands and release clause will test Campos’ negotiation skills, but the club see him as the missing piece. If the deal lands, it hands Hakimi a genuine understudy and gives Guela a platform to push for France recognition ahead of Euro 2028.
