Devin Booker praised by Suns rookie Koa Peat as 'one of the best'

Devin Booker earned high praise from Suns rookie Koa Peat, who called the five-time All-Star **one of the best players in the league** ahead of their first season together in Phoenix.

Peat, the 30th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, made the comments on Saturday during an interview on Amazon Prime while reflecting on his Summer League debut with Booker and the Suns.

Peat didn’t just compliment Booker: he framed the 26-year-old as a player he wants to learn from every day. “Just playing off him,” Peat said. “Trying to make him better as a player. Doing the little things. Creating for him and just learning from him. He is one of the best players in the league. He is a legend.”

The rookie’s comments came after he averaged 16.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals across four Summer League games in Las Vegas. He shot 51% from the field and scored at least 12 points in every appearance, including a 19-point outing on June 18.

Why Peat believes Booker will help his game

Peat sees Booker not just as a teammate, but as a mentor who can elevate his own development. The 19-year-old forward, who was a third-team All-Big 12 selection at Arizona last season, averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 35% from three for the Wildcats.

He led Arizona to the Final Four for the first time since 2001 and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team. Now, he’s ready to translate that college success into the NBA alongside Booker.

“Learning from him, I think, is going to help my game for sure,” Peat said.

How Peat is adjusting to the NBA

Peat logged minutes with Booker and several other Suns rookies and young players during Summer League, including Khaman Maluach, Rasheer Fleming and Koby Brea. Those reps were part of his deliberate approach to the faster pace of the NBA.

“I feel like from a young age, I try to play to my own pace,” Peat said. “Feel out the game with my IQ. When to go fast, when to go slow. Pick and choose when to speed it up a little bit.”

He added that the transition has been smooth so far, and he’s confident in his ability to contribute alongside Booker when training camp opens in September.

Booker, a five-time All-Star, enters the 2025-26 season with a new teammate eager to push him: and learn from him. Peat’s Summer League performance suggests he’s ready to contribute immediately, while Booker looks to build on a strong 2024-25 campaign.
