Devin Haney Agrees to Catchweight as Shakur Stevenson Accused of Dodging Fight

2026-07-13 · Devin Haney · Player Focus

Hall of Famer Tim Bradley accused Shakur Stevenson of deliberately avoiding a fight with Devin Haney after the WBO welterweight champion agreed to a 144lbs catchweight, according to a July 2026 YouTube analysis. Bradley criticized Stevenson’s decision to sidestep the matchup in favor of supporting friend Keyshawn Davis’s potential clash with Haney.

Stevenson, a four-division world champion since defeating Teofimo Lopez in January 2026, had been linked to a high-profile bout with Haney. However, Bradley alleged Stevenson used the catchweight demand as an excuse to withdraw. "He purposefully went M.I.A.," Bradley stated, referencing Stevenson’s shift to Zuffa Boxing and his preference to let Davis face Haney instead.

Haney’s team now has 11 days to finalize terms with Davis or face purse bids. Bradley questioned the financial viability of the Davis fight, suggesting Haney risks underpayment despite the bout’s appeal. "It’s a lose-lose," Bradley said, noting Haney could face criticism whether he wins or loses against the less-experienced Davis.

Stevenson’s Zuffa debut remains uncertain, while Haney’s camp must decide on the Davis matchup by late July 2026. Bradley’s comments highlight tensions in negotiating marquee fights, with Haney’s willingness to accommodate catchweights contrasting Stevenson’s retreat from the proposed clash.
