Dimitri Van den Bergh Withdraws from Austrian Darts Open

2026-06-24 · Dimitri Van den Bergh · Player Focus

Dimitri Van den Bergh has withdrawn from the Austrian Darts Open, citing an extended break.

The Belgian darts athlete was scheduled to compete in the fifth tournament of the European Tour 2025.

Dimitri Van den Bergh pulled out of his first-round match against Jose de Sousa at the Players Championship in Rosmalen, just two minutes before the start.

He also did not participate in the German Darts Grand Prix last weekend.

The Dreammaker had a strong start to the year, reaching the semi-finals at the Winmau World Masters and the last sixteen at the UK Open.

Since then, Van den Bergh has struggled, piling up defeats, and his recent withdrawals have sparked rumors of a potential break from darts.

According to the Belgian newspaper HLN, Van den Bergh may be considering a two-month break, but this has not been confirmed by his team.

Van den Bergh's absence from the Austrian Darts Open may impact his participation in the World Cup of Darts in June, where he was set to partner with Mike De Decker for Belgium.

If Van den Bergh is unable to compete, Kim Huybrechts may replace him as the third highest ranked Belgian on the world ranking list.

Dimitri Van den Bergh has withdrawn from this week's Players Championship 13 and 14 events due to illness, as announced by the PDC Darts on April 14, 2025.

The situation is being closely monitored by Mike De Decker, who will be affected by Van den Bergh's potential break.

Van den Bergh's fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the sport, hoping he can regain his form and compete at the highest level.

The Austrian Darts Open will proceed without Dimitri Van den Bergh, but the focus remains on the Belgian athlete's future in the sport.
