Emma Raducanu pulls out of Canadian Open and Cincinnati again amid injury crisis
Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, extending her injury layoff to at least another month ahead of the US Open. The former world No. 10 was due to play both WTA 1000 events based on her current ranking, but chose to skip them entirely.
What happened to Emma Raducanu?
Raducanu missed Wimbledon in July after withdrawing from the Queen’s Club Championships final against Donna Vekic. She lost that match in straight sets on 18 June, but not before beating Sorana Cîrstea and Iva Jović to reach her first WTA 500 final. Days later, she revealed a stress fracture in her lower right leg forced her out of Nottingham and then Wimbledon, leaving British fans without their top seed on Centre Court.
Why it matters for Emma Raducanu
Almost five years after her 2021 US Open title run-when she won ten straight matches from qualifying without dropping a set-Raducanu still hasn’t regained consistent form. Her ranking has slipped outside the Top 50 while she recovers, and she now risks arriving at the US Open without a warm-up. Her last hard-court match was back in March at Indian Wells, where she lost in the third round to Amanda Anisimova.
What comes next?
The Canadian Open runs from 2 to 13 August, followed by Cincinnati from 14 to 23 August. Raducanu won’t be on either entry list, pushing her comeback to late August at the earliest. The only WTA 500 before the US Open is the Monterrey Open, which ends on 4 August-too soon for a tune-up. If she skips that, she’ll head straight to New York with no match play since March.
How bad is the injury streak?
Since her 2021 breakthrough, Raducanu has battled repeated injuries that derailed momentum. This stress fracture is the latest setback, coming just months after her return at the 2025 DC Open. Each withdrawal chips away at her ranking and confidence, leaving fans and analysts wondering when-or if-she’ll recapture her 2021 form.
