Félix Auger-Aliassime Demands Rule Change

2026-07-06 · Félix Auger-Aliassime · Player Focus

Félix Auger-Aliassime has pleaded with tennis authorities to change the medical timeout rule after his Wimbledon match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

The Canadian tennis star won the match 6-7 (4), 7-6 (8), 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-1 in four hours and 26 minutes.

Félix Auger-Aliassime hit 27 aces throughout the match, including one on match point.

The controversy arose when Davidovich Fokina took a medical timeout midway through his service game, which Auger-Aliassime perceived as delaying tactics.

The Spaniard appeared to roll over his ankle when sliding on the grass, but Auger-Aliassime felt the timeout was unfair.

Auger-Aliassime stated that the rule needs to change, saying 'if you're hurt bad, or whatever you're hurt, while the game's going on of your opponent, in the middle of the game, the opponent is serving, the shot clock is on, basically when you're hurt bad, you're forfeiting every point until you can call the physio.'

He believes the current rule is a 'disgrace' and does not see it in any other sport.

The incident occurred on the grass courts of Wimbledon, where Auger-Aliassime was the third seed.

Félix Auger-Aliassime's victory marked the end of Davidovich Fokina's grass-court run.

The two players had a heated exchange at the net after the match, with Auger-Aliassime making his thoughts clear to his opponent.

Auger-Aliassime's comments were made in a press conference, where he expressed his frustration with the rule.

The tennis authorities have not yet responded to Auger-Aliassime's demands for a rule change.

Félix Auger-Aliassime's win at Wimbledon marked a significant milestone in his tennis career.

The match was one of the most epic of the tournament, with a viral point on social media and a thrilling five-set finish.
