Ferenc Puskás Inspires Next Generation at Pancho Aréna
Ferenc Puskás's example is set to inspire the next generation of footballers at the Pancho Aréna in Felcsut, Hungary. The stadium was inaugurated on April 29, 2014, with a statue of Puskás unveiled outside the Ferenc Puskás Football Academy's main building.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Hungarian prime minister and academy founder Viktor Orbán, who unveiled the statue of Puskás.
The player's widow, Erzsébet, was also present, along with Puskás's fellow 'Magical Magyars' of the 1950s, Jenõ Buzánszky and Pál Várhidi.
Puskás's legacy continues to inspire young players, with the Pancho Aréna set to be the home of the Puskás Academy's top-tier adult side.
Former Germany midfielder Lothar Matthäus felt positive about the new stadium, saying it was a good investment for the future of Hungarian football.
The stadium hosted its first international fixture on April 23, 2014, when Hungary's U19s beat their Turkish counterparts 5-2.
The Pancho Aréna will also be one of the venues for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
Amancio Amaro, a former Real Madrid CF team-mate of Puskás, praised the stadium, saying it was beautiful and that he felt honored to be there.
The stadium has a capacity of 4,000 and was built with the full approval of the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ), following site visits from UEFA.
But the main focus of the stadium will be on nurturing young talent, with the intention of producing the next Ferenc Puskás.
And with the help of the new stadium and the academy, it can be hoped that future generations will become big names in Hungarian football.
So the legacy of Ferenc Puskás continues to inspire and motivate young players in Hungary.
The 2014 Puskás-Suzui Cup final was held at the stadium on April 21, 2014, with Puskás Akadémia FC facing Real Madrid CF's Under-17 team.
