Francisco Lindor Returns to Mets Lineup for Game 2
Francisco Lindor is set to return for Game 2 of the Mets' doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.
He has been out of action for two months with a left calf strain.
Lindor suffered the injury while running the bases against the Minnesota Twins in late April.
He began his rehab with Double-A Binghamton in June.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza anticipates Lindor's return will bring back more than just on-field talent.
Lindor averaged 30 homers, 27 stolen bases, and 6.0 wins above replacement from 2022-25.
The Mets will ease Lindor into the team, letting him take multiple off days before he gets back to being an everyday starter.
On Tuesday, Lindor went 2-for-5 in eight innings with Triple-A Syracuse.
Lindor's connection with his teammates was missed, according to Mendoza.
He finished second in National League MVP voting in 2024 behind only Shohei Ohtani.
The Mets need Lindor's talent, Mendoza said.
Prior to the injury, Lindor had two home runs, two steals, and a .669 OPS in 24 games.
Lindor played back-to-back full games at shortstop with Triple-A Syracuse.
His return is expected to boost the team's performance.
Mendoza said Lindor's full return will have to wait.
The Mets will be cautious with Lindor's playing time.
Lindor's rehab has been successful so far.
He is ready to return to the lineup, Mendoza said.
The Mets face the Cubs in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Lindor's return is a significant boost for the team.
