Gerard Piqué’s FC Andorra signs veteran goalkeeper Pau López on two-year deal

Gerard Piqué’s FC Andorra has landed veteran goalkeeper Pau López on a two-year deal after the 31-year-old’s exit from Real Betis.

López, who spent last season as Betis’s backup, will leave the LaLiga club on a free transfer. The move clears his contract so he can join FC Andorra, a club owned by Piqué.

What happened?

Pau López’s time at Real Betis is over. The 31-year-old joined Betis last summer as a free agent and made 16 appearances across all competitions. Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, he’s set to join FC Andorra.

López’s Betis contract is being torn up to finalize the deal. In return, he’ll sign a two-year agreement with the LaLiga 2 side owned by Gerard Piqué.

Why it matters for Gerard Piqué

This signing boosts FC Andorra’s goalkeeping depth. López brings LaLiga experience to a club aiming for promotion. Piqué’s project gains a proven backup with 16 top-flight appearances under his belt.

The move also frees up Betis’s wage budget. López’s exit clears space for new signings at the LaLiga club.

What comes next?

López will finalize his medical and sign his contract with FC Andorra. The deal runs for two years, tying him to the club through at least the 2027-28 season.

FC Andorra will now focus on its LaLiga 2 campaign. The club sits mid-table in Spain’s second tier after last season’s 10th-place finish.

How the transfer unfolded

López arrived at Betis last summer as a free agent. He made 16 appearances across LaLiga, the Copa del Rey, and European fixtures. His role was primarily as a backup to the first-choice keeper.

The exit clears Betis’s wage bill. The club can now pursue new talent without López’s salary on the books.
