The second set was a different story, with Świątek making several errors and Sevastova gaining confidence.

Sevastova won five consecutive games from 1:1, taking the set 6:1.

The third set was closely contested, with Świątek fighting back from 3:1 down to 3:3.

However, Sevastova won the decisive seventh game and took the set 6:3.

Świątek made 54 unforced errors, compared to Sevastova's 24.

Sevastova will face Petra Martic in the third round.

Świątek had previously beaten Ivana Jorovic 6:0, 6:1 in the first round.

The loss ends Świątek's US Open campaign, but she can still look back on a successful season, including a run to the fourth round at the French Open.
