Ilia Topuria Suffers Injury After UFC White House Loss
Ilia Topuria suffered a stunning stoppage loss to Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC White House.
Ilia Topuria was defending his lightweight title for the first time and entered the bout as a sizable favorite.
He had success early on, looking like he was on his way to finishing Gaethje in the second round.
However, Gaethje was able to survive and then took over and dominated Topuria, battering him en route to a corner stoppage after the fourth round.
After the loss, Topuria was transported to a hospital, and his injuries have now been revealed, including a broken orbital bone.
Spanish MMA reporter Irati Prat for Marca revealed that Topuria won’t need surgery for the injury.
Prat wrote on X: “Good news from Washington: Ilia Topuria is doing well. He’s taking some rest.”
Luckily, it appears that Ilia Topuria avoided major injuries but will need time off to rest and heal up after all the damage he took.
Topuria took to Instagram to break his silence on the loss and vowed to come back stronger.
He wrote: “Justin, congratulations. You said you’d leave your mark on my face… and you did.”
With the loss, Topuria fell to 17-1 as a pro and lost his lightweight title in his first attempt at defending it.
Topuria will look to reclaim his title and is already planning his return to the octagon.
He will need to heal and rest before he can start training again, but he is determined to come back stronger and more dangerous than ever.
