Islam Makhachev's Coach Not Ruling Out Max Holloway Matchup After UFC 329
Islam Makhachev's Coach Open to Max Holloway Matchup Following UFC 329
Islam Makhachev's coach, Javier Mendez, has stated that the current champion at 170 pounds wouldn't hesitate to sign on the dotted line against Max Holloway, despite Holloway's recent loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 329.
Max Holloway expressed interest in fighting Islam Makhachev when commenting on whether he'd continue to compete at welterweight. Many will be quick to point out that 'Blessed' was convincingly beaten by Charles Oliveira earlier this year due to his superior grappling.
Makhachev's coach, Javier Mendez, knows that the style matchup wouldn't stop Holloway from pursuing the current champion at 170 pounds. Mendez believes that his fighter wouldn't hesitate to sign on the dotted line despite the other contenders in the division if this is what the UFC pushes for.
Mendez stated that "Whatever the UFC wants to do, Islam's going to say yes and Max is a legend and he doesn't back down from anybody… You can't cross Max out in any competition because he's game." He also believes that Holloway has the mindset of a warrior and the mindset of a champion, so he's up for any challenge.
Makhachev's coach, Javier Mendez, is disappointed that the potential fight between Islam Makhachev and Conor McGregor didn't come to fruition. A win for McGregor this past weekend would have produced a strong chance of him getting some form of title shot. This wasn't guaranteed, especially considering it would be the last fight on his contract, but the UFC would have had several huge matchups to pick from.
Mendez admitted that he's disappointed he won't get to be in the corner for this matchup following the way that McGregor's return ended. "Bummer. I mean I wanted that fight because look, listen, we as coaches, we live for those moments to have an opportunity to be with something like that, that magnitude," Mendez said.
Makhachev's coach, Javier Mendez, is confident that his fighter will be ready for whatever comes next. Mendez believes that Makhachev has the skills and the determination to take on any opponent, including Max Holloway.
Islam Makhachev's coach, Javier Mendez, is looking forward to seeing what the future holds for his fighter. With the potential matchup against Max Holloway on the table, Mendez is excited to see how Makhachev will perform.
