Israel Adesanya Explains Not Considering Retirement Despite Losses

2026-06-26 · Israel Adesanya · Player Focus

Israel Adesanya recently opened up about his stance on retiring from professional fighting.

He explained why he wasn't considering it yet, despite being on a four-fight losing slide.

Adesanya lost to Joe Pyfer via second-round knockout at UFC Seattle in March.

He also lost consecutive fights against Nassourdine Imavov, Dricus du Plessis, and Sean Strickland.

The Nigerian-born Kiwi's last win was when he knocked out Alex Pereira in the second round to reclaim the middleweight title at UFC 287 in April 2023.

Many have urged him to hang up his gloves for good to preserve his health and legacy.

Adesanya explained why it was hard for him to quit the game, saying his ego is tied into it.

He added that he doesn't want this to be the writing of his story and feels like he can still tend to his career and make it bloom.

Adesanya's comments came during a conversation with Demetrious Johnson.

He stated that even with four losses in a row, he still has more equity than most people in the game.

Robert Whittaker shared his thoughts on Adesanya's losing streak earlier this year.

Whittaker urged Adesanya to find his hunger again and said he needs to find that drive to continue doing what he's doing.

Adesanya's losing streak has sparked debate about his future in the UFC.

He has no intention of calling it a career just yet, despite the losses.

The UFC community will be watching Adesanya's next move closely.

His decision to continue fighting will have a significant impact on his legacy and the sport as a whole.

Adesanya's determination to keep fighting is admirable.

He is still one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts and is widely considered among the best strikers in the game.

The question on everyone's mind is what's next for Israel Adesanya.

Will he be able to turn his career around and start winning again, or will his losing streak continue?
