Jakob Ingebrigtsen Breaks World Indoor 1500m Record

2026-06-29 · Jakob Ingebrigtsen · Player Focus

Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke his own indoor 1500m world record on February 13, 2025, with a time of 3:29.63. He also broke Yared Nuguse's indoor mile record in 3:45.14.

Ingebrigtsen ran solo for the final 600 meters after being paced through the 1000m mark in 2:20.49.

He exacted some revenge on Nuguse, who outkicked him at the Olympics in the 1500m.

Ingebrigtsen's feat is a significant achievement in the track and field athletics world.

Ingebrigtsen's new record will gather far more attention internationally than his time in the rarely-competed mile.

His personal best of 3:26.73 in the outdoor 1500m makes him the fourth-fastest man in history at the distance.

Ingebrigtsen's arch-rival, Josh Kerr, won the Fifth Avenue Mile with a time of 3:44.3 in September.

Ingebrigtsen's indoor mile time will sit as the tenth-fastest mile in history, just edging Kerr's personal best of 3:45.34.

Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco has held the overall world records in the 1500m and the mile since the late '90s.

Ingebrigtsen's performance on February 13, 2025, is a testament to his hard work and dedication to the sport.

Cole Hocker, who won Olympic gold in the 1500m, raced in the 3000m at The Armory on Saturday, where he was outkicked by Grant Fisher.

Fisher ran 7:22.91 to break the world record indoors.

Ingebrigtsen's record-breaking performance is a significant milestone in his career.
