Jalen Brunson electrifies WWE crowd at MSG with WWE championship belt

2026-07-19 · Jalen Brunson · Player Focus

Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns brought the energy to Madison Square Garden on Saturday night: but this time, it wasn’t for basketball. The New York Knicks stars made a surprise appearance at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, with Brunson receiving a custom WWE championship belt amid thunderous chants of 'MVP.'

What happened at the WWE event?

Brunson, still recovering from wrist surgery, entered the arena alongside WWE superstar Roman Reigns at around 10:00 p.m. The crowd erupted as fireworks lit up the arena, and Brunson was gifted a blue and orange WWE championship belt, matching the Knicks’ colors. The three-time All-Star stayed mostly on the sidelines as Reigns and Seth Rollins battled, but his presence alone drew deafening cheers.

Meanwhile, Towns took a more hands-on role earlier in the night. He helped wrestler Danhausen defeat JD McDonagh by delivering a choke-slam to McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio through a wooden table. Towns had previously met Danhausen at Fanatics Fest, jokingly giving him his watch and shoes in exchange for good karma after the wrestler 'uncursed' the Knicks during their playoff run.

Why it matters for Jalen Brunson

Brunson’s WWE appearance came just weeks after he led the Knicks to their first NBA Finals championship in 53 years. His star power continues to grow, both on and off the court. The custom WWE belt he received is a testament to his popularity in New York, where fans have embraced him as a leader and clutch performer. His wrist injury hasn’t slowed his ability to captivate crowds, even in a wrestling ring.

What’s next for Brunson and the Knicks?

With the NBA season still months away, Brunson is focused on rehabbing his wrist. However, his WWE appearance shows he’s still finding ways to stay in the spotlight. Meanwhile, Towns’ playful interaction with Danhausen adds to the Knicks’ growing reputation as a team with a fun, charismatic culture. As the offseason continues, fans will be watching to see how Brunson’s leadership translates into another strong season for New York.
