Jalen Hurts Faces Replacement Threat

2026-07-06 · Jalen Hurts · Player Focus

Jalen Hurts is on the hot seat entering 2026. The Philadelphia Eagles got rid of wide receiver A.J. Brown on June 1, and some believe Hurts could be next if he fails to deliver another long playoff run.

The Eagles' interest in potentially moving on from Hurts could prompt a move as soon as next season, according to NFL insider Jason La Canfora.

Hurts threw for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2022, finishing second in MVP voting. But the team's offense has oscillated wildly in other years, and Hurts has been unwilling to make big-time throws.

La Canfora notes that one NFL executive believes if Hurts struggles in 2026, a possible Lamar Jackson trade could become a reality given general manager Howie Roseman's impatience.

The Ravens were rumored to be exploring trade options for Jackson this offseason, and the team could still be open to moving him for the right price. Jackson is a two-time MVP who has carried the team's offense for years.

The 2027 quarterback draft class is earning strong early reviews, and the Eagles might be willing to explore their options if Hurts doesn't perform well in 2026. As La Canfora wrote, the Eagles are willing to do whatever it takes to win, even if it means making aggressive moves.

Howie Roseman isn't afraid to make major roster moves, and the Eagles will likely be active in the quarterback market if Hurts struggles. The team's willingness to move on from Hurts could lead to a fascinating offseason in 2027.
