Jannik Sinner crushes Alexander Zverev to defend Wimbledon 2026 title
Jannik Sinner claimed his second straight Wimbledon men’s singles title on 13 July 2026, beating second seed Alexander Zverev in four sets.
Sinner survived a brutal opening two sets before taking control in the third and fourth. He dropped the first two tiebreaks 7-6(7) and 6-7(2) but broke Zverev’s serve three times in the final two sets. The Italian finished it off with a 6-4 fourth-set win to seal his fifth Grand Slam.
Zverev’s serve was untouchable early. The German fired 83% of first serves in the second set and won 70% of first-serve points. Sinner chased every ball deep, often standing four metres behind the baseline, and won only one of five such points.
But in the second-set tiebreak, Sinner locked in. He refused to back off in forehand exchanges, drew an error, and then cracked a backhand return winner off a 129 mph ace. Four set points followed at 6-2, and he closed them out with a forehand down the line.
The title is Sinner’s first Grand Slam of 2026 and his fifth overall. It also marks his second straight Wimbledon crown, making him the first man to defend the title since Roger Federer in 2007-08.
Sinner’s serve stayed sharp all fortnight. His placement and disguise repeatedly forced errors, while his movement confused Zverev. The win caps a run where Sinner has looked untouchable on grass despite occasional shakiness in his baseline timing.
Sinner now turns to the North American hard-court swing. His next major target is the US Open in late August, where he’ll aim to add to his tally and cement his status as the tour’s dominant all-surface force.
Zverev, meanwhile, remains winless in major finals. His serve brilliance on Sunday wasn’t enough to overcome Sinner’s clutch tiebreak play and relentless aggression in the final two sets.
