Jasmine Paolini storms past Lucia Bronzetti to reach Wimbledon quarterfinals

Jasmine Paolini crushed Lucia Bronzetti 6-2 6-1 on Centre Court on 8 July 2025 to book her place in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

Paolini moved through the first set in 36 minutes, breaking Bronzetti twice to take it 6-2. She kept the pressure on early in the second, breaking at 2-1 and never looking back. The Italian finished with 22 winners to just seven unforced errors, while Bronzetti managed only six winners all match.

The quarterfinal berth is Paolini’s best at a Grand Slam since she reached the Australian Open fourth round in January. It’s also the first time an Italian woman has gone this deep at Wimbledon since Camila Giorgi in 2016. Her next opponent will be Marta Kostyuk, who stunned Coco Gauff earlier in the day.

Paolini attacked the net in the opening game, forcing a break point within 90 seconds. Bronzetti saved two of three break chances in the first set but couldn’t stop the flow. By the third game Paolini had already hit eight winners to zero errors, while Bronzetti was stuck on three.

Paolini will face Kostyuk on Tuesday, 9 July 2025, with the winner set to meet either Aryna Sabalenka or Madison Keys in the semifinals. A win would put Paolini in her first Slam semifinal and keep her inside the top 20 in the rankings.
