Jeremy Cameron Wins Big, Faces Club Fine

2026-06-27 · Jeremy Cameron · Match Report

Jeremy Cameron kicked six goals in Geelong's 95-point demolition of Essendon on Saturday.

He will face a club fine for laying zero tackles.

Cameron's six-goal haul took him to 44 for the season, pulling clear of GWS spearhead Jesse Hogan in the Coleman Medal race.

The Cats' relentless forward pressure was on full display against Essendon, with forwards Gryan Miers, Shaun Mannagh, and Brad Close making their presence felt in the tackle count.

Cameron told Fox Footy after the game that the boys were quick to remind him that he didn't have a tackle, so he's got to cough up during the week.

The win came at a cost for Chris Scott's Cats, with key defender Sam De Koning substituted in the third quarter after injuring his left shoulder early in the game.

Geelong will feel exceptionally confident heading into Friday's blockbuster against reigning premiers Brisbane at GMHBA Stadium.

The Cats led by 35 points at halftime, and despite Essendon spearhead Peter Wright booting the first goal of the second half, Geelong were unfazed and kicked on.

Cameron's fine will be a penalty for not recording a tackle, ending an eight-game streak of recording at least one tackle.

The gulf in class was evident, with Geelong's dynamic midfield partnership of Bailey Smith and Max Holmes continuing to impress.

Smith racked up 24 disposals in the first half and finished with 41, plus 760 metres gained.
