Joel Embiid Leads Sixers into NBA Free Agency

Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers start NBA free agency on June 30.

The team has limited cap space due to Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey's salaries.

NBA free agency begins at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 30.

The Sixers picked up player options for Dominick Barlow and Dalen Terry.

Barlow will make $3.4 million, and Terry will earn $2.5 million.

The team must decide on retaining Kelly Oubre Jr., Quentin Grimes, Andre Drummond, Kyle Lowry, Trendon Watford, Tyrese Martin, and MarJon Beauchamp.

Gansey likely prioritizes Oubre and Grimes.

The Sixers need a younger backup for Embiid.

They may target Dean Wade, John Collins, Jock Landale, Rui Hachimura, Marvin Bagley III, Mitchell Robinson, or Sandro Mamukelashvili.

The team has the $15 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception and the $5.5 million bi-annual exception.

Robinson, Collins, Hachimura, and Wade may command the full mid-level exception.

The Sixers are desperate for size after struggling to rebound last season.

They currently don't have a true power forward on the roster.

Mike Gansey, the 76ers' new president of basketball operations, will make key decisions.

He originally signed Dean Wade as an undrafted free agent in 2019.

The Sixers drafted guard Labaron Philon Jr. out of Alabama with the 22nd pick.

Their backcourt is mostly set with Maxey and V. J. Edgecombe.

The team will look to build depth along the frontcourt.

They may add guard depth with veteran minimum deals.
