John McEnroe Leaves BBC Commentary Mid-Match

John McEnroe left his BBC commentary position midway through Arthur Fery's match against Grigor Dimitrov on 07 Jul 2026.

McEnroe was in the BBC commentary box alongside Andrew Cotter and Tim Henman when he stepped away from his post.

Cotter joked: "I think we're going to have to bid farewell at this point, John McEnroe to take a break, never to return."

McEnroe responded: "Well, hopefully I'll return but I've got contractual obligations to do the lone American in the draw, Taylor Fritz."

Fritz was set to face Alexander Bublik, and McEnroe had to leave to cover the match.

No. 9 seed Linda Noskova had just defeated Madison Keys 6-4, 7-6 (2) on Court 1, and Taylor Fritz was next to play.

Fritz recognized he was in for a challenging contest against the world No. 11, saying: "Both are very crafty, good grass court players playing well, in form."

Bublik needed five sets to get past Frances Tiafoe in round three and took Fritz to a first set tie-break.

However, the American won it to draw first blood in the fourth-round battle on Court 1.

The match was part of Wimbledon 2026, with Seat Unique offering tickets and VIP access.

Fritz's win in the first set tie-break set him up for a potential run to the final, with McEnroe set to cover his progress.
