Jos Buttler smashes T20I record with 233-run stand alongside Harry Brook
Jos Buttler and Harry Brook lit up the Bristol County Ground on 18 June with a record-shattering 233-run partnership against India in the third T20I.
Buttler, England’s captain, and Brook batted through the powerplay and beyond, piling up runs at a run-a-ball clip. Their stand dwarfed the previous England T20I record of 170, set by Buttler and Alex Hales in 2016. The pair put on 233 in 19.4 overs before Brook fell for 97 off 51 balls. Buttler finished unbeaten on 101 off 54, sealing the highest partnership for any wicket in England’s T20I history.
The record partnership adds to Buttler’s growing tally of T20 milestones. At 35, he’s now the only England batter with three T20I centuries and the leading run-scorer in the format for his country. The stand also underscored his ability to anchor chases under pressure, a trait that’s kept him England’s go-to batter in crunch moments.
India fought back with three wickets in the last four overs, but Buttler’s unbeaten ton ensured England reached 212 for 2. The target proved too steep for Virat Kohli’s side, who finished 30 runs short. Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets, but the damage was done long before he entered the attack.
England sealed the series 2-1 the next day, but Buttler’s focus now shifts to the white-ball squad’s summer schedule. His next outing could come in the second ODI against Ireland on 27 June. With the T20I record in his back pocket, the question is whether he’ll add another ODI chapter to his story.
