Joshua Cheptegei Leads Strong Field at Absa Run Your City 10km
Joshua Cheptegei, the 10,000m world record holder, will lead a strong field at the Absa Run Your City 10km in Durban.
The event promises to deliver Africa's fastest race, with a stacked men's field featuring Kenya's Felix Masai and Gilbert Kiprotich.
Cheptegei's participation was confirmed earlier this month, and he will be joined by Uganda's Emmanuel Kibet, who owns a personal best of 27:37.
Lesotho national record holder Kamohelo Mofolo, with a best time of 27:47, returns to Durban hoping to improve on the city's quick course.
South Africa's top road runner Kabelo Mulaudzi will also be among the elite athletes, aiming to challenge Maxime Chaumeton's South African 10km record of 26:55.
Masai, who won the Two Oceans Half Marathon in Cape Town earlier this year, says sharing the start line with Cheptegei is a special opportunity.
Cheptegei's world record in the 10,000m stands at 26:49.51, set on October 7, 2020.
The Absa Run Your City 10km will take place in Durban, with a fast course that could lead to record-breaking times.
And with such a high-quality field, Mulaudzi believes the conditions are perfect to produce a fast time.
But Cheptegei will face stiff competition from his rivals, including Masai and Kiprotich.
So the stage is set for an exciting race, with some of the biggest names in world distance running set to battle it out.
Cheptegei's performance will be closely watched, as he looks to continue his dominance in the distance running scene.
The event will be a key test for Cheptegei, as he prepares for upcoming competitions.
