Justin Gaethje’s next UFC title defense locked in against fresh opponent, rematches ruled out

Justin Gaethje’s first UFC lightweight title defense will be against a fighter he’s never faced before, his manager Ali Abdelaziz confirmed on X on 13 Jul 2026.

Gaethje dethroned Ilia Topuria in a monumental upset at UFC Freedom 250 on 18 Jun 2026, ending the Georgian’s two-fight win streak and seizing the undisputed lightweight title. The 37-year-old American became the oldest first-time UFC champion in the division’s history, capping a decade-long rise from regional promotions to the top of the sport.
