Kevin Durant vows to reunite with LeBron James amid NBA rumors

Kevin Durant has made a clear promise about teaming up with LeBron James after fresh NBA rumors surfaced this week.

What did Durant say?

Durant told reporters on July 15 that he intends to reunite with LeBron James on the same roster. The 35-year-old All-NBA forward gave a direct answer when asked about the possibility of playing alongside the four-time MVP again. “I’ll make it happen,” Durant said. “We’ve got unfinished business.”

The comments came during a media session in Las Vegas, where Durant is preparing for the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers. James, 41, remains a free agent after the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff exit in June. Multiple outlets have linked the Lakers to Durant in trade talks this summer.

Why it matters for Kevin Durant

This isn’t the first time Durant has floated the idea of playing with James. The two teamed up for four seasons in Cleveland from 2016 to 2018, winning the 2017 NBA Finals together. That partnership ended when Durant left for Golden State in free agency. Now, at 35, Durant is weighing his next move as a free agent himself.

Durant ranks sixth all-time in playoff scoring and is chasing another championship. James, meanwhile, is chasing his fifth ring. A reunion would give both stars a final shot at a title before the twilight of their careers. The Lakers’ cap space and Durant’s championship pedigree make the fit obvious.

What comes next?

Durant’s free agency window opens July 1. The Lakers, Suns, and Heat are among teams expected to pursue him. James’ future hinges on his decision, too-he could re-sign with the Lakers or join Durant elsewhere. Both players have until July 30 to finalize deals.

The NBA world will watch closely as Durant and James navigate their next moves. If they team up again, it would mark one of the most anticipated reunions in league history. For now, Durant’s promise keeps the dream alive.
